Seminar: The FAIR Principles and The Role of Ontological Conceptual Modelling

The society has effectively entered an era that can be called a “data age” — the amount of data produced increases tremendously in most disciplines. Apart from the technical challenges of storing and processing such huge amounts of data, four big concerns emerge: Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability — four key preconditions of truly leveraging data in the global scale and prevent loss of valuable information, such as a possible cure for a disease. In this lecture, the FAIR principles will be explained along with current initiatives in this area, with a focus on the importance of ontological conceptual modeling in these efforts.
