Doctoral Study (PhD)

The doctoral studies at the Department of Information and Knowledge Engineering focus on theoretical foundations and practical applications of the now popular knowledge technologies such as knowledge discovery in databases, creation of knowledge-based (expert) systems, uncertainty, text mining or semantic web.

The individual doctoral thesis can cover both the theoretical foundations of knowledge engineering methods or the development of new methods and creative applications of known methods in a real environment. In most cases the doctoral study is done in direct relation to the international and domestic research projects of the department, is associated with prestigious publications, travels to conferences and stays at foreign partner workplaces. Its results are also often reflected in the teaching of existing and design of new courses.

A successful completion of the doctoral study optionally opens a scientific career or practical employment, e.g., in the role of data analyst or manager with broad knowledge overview of the emerging knowledge-based technologies.
