Seminář: Combining Ontology Mapping Methods Using Bayesian Networks, Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative 2006 – ‚Conference‘ Track

Bayesian networks (BNs) can capture interdependencies among ontology mapping methods and thus possibly improve the way they are combined. We will outline the basic idea behind our approach and show some experiments on ontologies from the OAEI ‚conference organisation‘ collection. The possibility of modelling explicit mapping patterns in combination with methods will also be discussed.

The increasing number of methods available for schema matching/ontology integration suggests the need to establish a consensus for evaluation of these methods. Since 2004, OAEI organizes evaluation campaigns aiming at evaluating ontology matching technologies (see http://oaei.ontologymatching.org/2004/Contest/ and http://oaei.ontologymatching.org/2005). The OAEI 2006 campaign is associated to the ISWC Ontology matching workshop (OM–2006) to be held at Athens, GA, USA on November 6, 2006. This year’s campaign will consist of four tracks gathering six data sets and different evaluation modalities. In the ‚conference‘ track, coordinated by UEP (see http://nb.vse.cz/~svabo/oaei2006/), participants have been asked to freely explore a collection of 12 OWL ontologies independently developed for the domain of ‚conference organisation‘, based on different resources. There was no a priori reference alignment. Alignment results have eventually been obtained from 6 research groups, and are currently being analysed, with the aim of discovering e.g. interesting individual correspondences (‚nuggets‘), frequent modelling or mapping errors, aggregated statistical observations and/or implicit design patterns. For a selected sample of correspondences, consensus will be sought within a dedicated ‚consensus workshop‘ within OM-2006, and the process of its reaching will be recorded.
