Knowledge Support for Modeling and Simulation: Intermediate results of a dissertation project

Prezentující: Michal Sevcenko

This talk presents the ongoing dissertation project Knowledge Support for modeling and simulation and some of its intermediate results. The project focuses on development and validation of methods and tools for knowledge-based management of technical documentation, particularly in the field of modeling and simulation of dynamic engineering systems. The project proposes new knowledge modeling language, which combines high expressive power of AI-intensive languages like KIF or CycL, and modern features of Semantic-Web based languages like OWL. The modeling language is used in prototype implementation of knowledge management component, which can be used for authoring and browsing of ontologies. Another major output of the project is the prototype documentation system, supporting authoring, management and retrieval of documents with mainly technical content. The ultimate goal of the project is to develop a comprehensive, user-friendly system that combines conventional content management systems with knowledge-based approach backed with domain ontologies. The system is enhanced with modest contribution of artificial intelligence techniques like natural language processing, automatic classification, or problem solving.
