Wordnets and Ontologies

Prezentující: Karel Pala

I. What are Wordnets? Princeton WordNet, Czech WordNet – their basic properties. How are multilingual Wordnets created? Experience from EuroWordNet and BalkaNet projects. Tools for working with Wordnets – VisDic and DEBVisDic – basic demo. Ontological properties of Wordnets, relation to domains and linking to SUMO/MILO. II. Wordnets and ontologies in EU project KYOTO. The KYOTO project (2009-2011) aims at a unique and straightforward application of WordNet-like ontologies in the multilingual form (denoted as the Global WordNet Grid) and a shared common ontology corresponding to the level of the Suggested Upper Merged Ontology (SUMO) as the central knowledge backbone. The ontology here serves as a meaning description tool for all the terms and facts that are extracted, compared and stored within the KYOTO system. We will talk about the insides of the KYOTO project and present its current research phase.
