Seminář: What’s new on the Web of Linked Data – Progress towards the giant global dataspace

The Web of Linked Data is an ambitious effort to evolve the Web into a unified global dataspace. On the Web of Linked Data, information can not only by be found and consumed by us, the human users, but it can also re-used, queried and automatically processed by computers, based on open Semantic Web standards. While this vision is far from realized, much progress has been made, and DERI has made a number of significant contributions. In this talk, I will give an overview of the vision, describe where we are, and muse about next steps towards this world-wide database of everything. Richard Cyganiak is a research associate at NUIG’s Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), and co-ordinates DERI’s Linked Data Research Centre. Richard’s research interest is web-scale data integration and the application of Semantic Web technologies in the fields of Open Data and Official Statistics. He is a co-founder of the Linking Open Data initiative. He contributes to web standards development at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and serves as an editor of a number of specifications and metadata standards, including RDF 1.1 Concepts and the Data Cube Vocabulary. He maintains a number of open source software projects, including the database-to-RDF mapper D2RQ, the Linked Data server Pubby, and the RDF Schema editor and publishing system Neologism.
