Semantics-Driven Middleware Layer for Building Operation Analysis in Large-Scale Environments

Prezentující: Adam Kučera

Costs related to the operation of facilities (buildings and devices) represent a significant part of expenses of an organization. Large amount of precise, detailed and up-to-date information can also be gathered from building management systems (BMS) that integrate various building automation and electronic systems. However, the building operation data is currently unavailable for advanced analytical tools. This situation is largely attributable to two factors: inaccessibility of the BMS data and missing semantic information. The research aims to simplify the development of end-user applications by providing convenient data sources, interfaces and additional data semantics. The talk presents a middleware layer that will provide ontology integrating BMS with other facility management software systems such as Building Information Model (BIM). The ontology enriches building operation data gathered from automation systems with additional semantic information needed for data analysis. Using the proposed middleware layer, developers will be able to fully focus on analytical methods and user-oriented aspects of the applications. As a result, the proposed architecture will facilitate the development of complex analytical tools for BMS that are similar to those available for another parts of facility management.
